The Same Page Binder cover art: an 8-chapter guide and 10 printable pages in US Letter and A4, with four lines joining into one.

The Same Page Binder: one shared record for the family helping an aging parent

When several people help a parent, the details end up in different heads, phones and drawers. This binder gives the family one place to record where documents are kept, who to call, what was said at each appointment and who is handling what.

Who it's for

Brothers, sisters and other relatives who share the care admin for an aging parent, including the one who lives a plane ride away. If your family keeps track of appointments in a group chat, one sibling's memory and a shoebox of papers, this binder gives that information a single home.

AARP and the National Alliance for Caregiving estimate that 63 million US adults gave ongoing care to an adult or a child with a medical condition or disability in the 12 months before their 2025 survey, up 45% from 2015. Of those, 59 million care for an adult. Sixty percent of family caregivers are employed. Source: AARP and National Alliance for Caregiving, Caregiving in the US 2025 (July 2025). What's inside

Your download has four files:

  1. Start Here (PDF, 3 pages). How to print the kit at actual size, which paper size to choose, how to open the guide, and the binder's privacy rule.
  2. The guide (EPUB, 8 chapters). Setting up the binder over a first weekend, sharing the work, running a family care huddle, talking with your parent about paperwork, helping from far away, a 20-minute monthly review, and a map of who to call.
  3. The printable kit, US Letter (ZIP with one 10-page PDF).
  4. The printable kit, A4 (ZIP with the same 10 pages on A4 paper).

The ten pages

How it works

  1. Read Chapter 1 and print the kit on your paper size.
  2. Fill in the first pages together. Chapter 2 sets out an order for a first weekend session.
  3. Hold a short family huddle using the agenda page. Chapter 4 explains who attends and what to cover.
  4. Once a month, walk through the check-in list. Chapter 7 describes a 20-minute routine for it.

Privacy rule

The pages never ask for passwords, PINs, or full ID or account numbers. They record where a document is kept and who can reach it.

What it is not

The Same Page Binder is an organizer only. It helps a family keep track of who does what, where things are kept and what was said.

In an emergency, call your local emergency number.

Questions

Is this a physical product?

No. It is a digital download of four files. You print the kit yourself.

Which paper size should I choose?

Use US Letter if your printer paper is 8.5 x 11 inches, as in the United States and Canada. Use A4 if your paper is 210 x 297 mm, as in most other countries. Both files are included.

Is there a fillable PDF?

No. The kit is print-only.

Does it tell us what to do about Mom's medicines, money or legal papers?

No. The guide's last chapter is a map of which professional handles which kinds of questions, so you know who to ask.
